It's almost fact. OK. All right. So this presentation on October 19 and the topic is covid-19 into the official archives seizing arisan opportunities. I just came for one by Julia, also around covid and very excited about what's he doing. So we would like you to start the presentation and leave the platform for you. If anybody has questions, please feel free to type them in the chatterbox and then, yeah, we're good to go. So yeah, I want to hear. Thank you. Thank you. Jesus once again. Hello everyone. And happy World Heritage to us all. And so I'm just going to keep in mind I'm going to share my screen and. Then we going to share the presentation with you. It's happening now I'm sorry, it's not super beautiful because I'm not able to go in full screen mode just to be able to see all the textbooks, it has to be the reading mode. So I for that. But I think apart from that, we are we are ready to go. OK, so the difficult times, challenging times we're in. About some time ago we decided we started talking with you on Twitter. Perhaps we could shift the discussion that we are all having these days and focus about a bit about on the on the opportunities and not the challenges that the dependance has has put on us all. And if I'm to summarize this this presentation and one slide, I think the aim of this whole process that I will tell you a little bit more about in a minute is what's to answer to be able to ask the question. OK, so how do we make it more? How do we keep the show going? How do we stay connected? First of all, to what we do on and daily basis, better tools with our stakeholders to everyone.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=0.63,146.03"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And how how do we how do we last? How do we survive it in a bit more dramatic mode? And this is what we do, what we did. So we thought that, OK, we have we need to understand better what is what is possible, what is physical, what we in our institutions, but also in our networks, what we are allowed to or able to do in this challenging situation. And we said, OK, we have two amazing networks, associations, communities behind us. It's, as you said, the answer. And we decided to put this into context and invite our colleagues to join us in this dialog and to join us in a discussion about, OK, so how can we embrace the challenge and how can we change it into an opportunity when it comes to providing access to our digital connections? And this is this is what we came up with, with, first of all, decided, OK, so we want to have a chat with all of you. And we were able to have two virtual exchanges with our colleagues from all over the world. And so we increased it or we added to it's a free questionnaire. So we asked you all those registered to to help us prepare for the exchanges, for the conversations. And we we sent beforehand a set of questions at exactly linked to the topic of access, linked to the topic of. Had the change in the work mode, but linked also to the opportunities that the current situation has has brought into the into our tower sector and finally were able to include some extra questions into the timeline survey that is issued, issued annually by Fiete after. So these three kind of formats, these three channels, they they've helped us structure and come to the observations that we're going to share with you in a moment to put this to put everything in a bit of a bigger perspective.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=146.36,282.12"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Please don't get scared about this huge quote. We'll just turn it into pieces in a second. There is a report has been published by OED in September 2020. And it's about the like the title, I think says it all. It's controversial covid-19 and the cultural and creative sectors where the experts that talk about all the challenges that our sector, culture and creative is encountering these days and how difficult it is, how much of a struggle it is. But there is also a moment when they the report talks about the opportunities that come in where together, what digitization with digital transformation and. How has the digital transformation can create new forms of experience that can translate into new business models and with a totally new or adjusted market potential, that there is a room for innovation using the technology, but also new ways of working together? We all know that innovation doesn't have to be linked to technology, and innovation comes in with all together with all the areas of our work, but that the opportunity is there and that we can create a new type of experience and again translate it into experience economy. And finally, that through this shift and the challenge slash opportunity, we are able to create new engagement for forums and we can simply get in dialog with wider communities because the communication channels or outreach channels are different and there is much more we can do in that respect. So then furthermore, when we looked at the answers from the to the Timeline Survey Timeline survey, I think this year we we have replies for more than 80 institutions. And I hope that you can read the text. But basically my point here is that securing broader online access to digital archival collections was listed or ranked as is the highest as one of the most relevant ones when it comes to needed elements for digital transformation or needed aspects of our work.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=282.33,433.989"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/4","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And in the current context, in the context of covid-19, what I like a lot is that the the access is what the need for bigger access is a component where a or a need for mass digitization, because to me it's always like this digitization access. These are the two. This is something that I heard yesterday at the presentation and I liked it a lot, that it's these are two sides of the same coin. So one that doesn't really exist without the other. So I really appreciate that. To members say they have a similar perspective, that they see it as a joint process. And with that information. So we had the big report, we had the time, I served it, we had the meetings and the questionnaire. We decided and we really enjoyed the conversations, to be very honest. And they were super informative and enriching to to both of us. I hope I can also say on his behalf, at least not he's not good at. And we were able to decide, OK, so let's try to group the information that we gathered and let's let's try to list them as observations. And this is where I had no one to go on. Yes. Thank you and welcome, everybody to to our talk also. So the following all the input we are making and sharing six main observations. And this is something that is we will be writing off in a report that will be here shortly. So today we can just briefly go into the to each of the six next. And appreciate the amazing drawings that were made to support our presentation, so the first observation is galvanizing the full potential of online access to all the visual content. And and with this, we need both amplifying words that we already, already are doing.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=434.2,576.399"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/5","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So, for instance, offering access to collections online and the second, but also to explore new areas. And so one obvious new area is that audio visual archives can play a role in fighting misinformation, and especially in the context of appropriate. There is a lot of misinformation about how the pandemic has started to spread. And so now with respect to vaccines, so it is important for audiovisual archives to to, for instance, work together with Checker's and make their collections available as trusted sources to to fight misinformation. And let's see also the it is now become apparent that many venues, for instance, debates or or theaters are now also becoming broadcasters because there a way of communicating and reaching out to audiences online. So it's also interesting to see how we can work together with those new newly emerging broadcasters. Speak the like Maya. So here are some some quotes from the survey that. It's it's incredible that the conversation about allowing third parties to access content is changing under in over the last couple of months in some cases. So we will hope that this is something that many of us, our members are experiencing that is now the need for online access is growing. So then also rights holders would be open to more flexible negotiations the next. This is also something that came out of their timeline survey and when we asked the question about online outreach. There is a massive agreement that this is something of big interest. So now moving to add observation that number two, this one is closely linked to access, but it focuses on the on our audience or audiences, rather. So it's about fostering direct engagement with your audience. How do you do it? How do we make sure that with all the content that is available online, we're still a.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=576.42,744.289"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/6","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Respond to the ones of our audiences. So how do we how do we ask the questions? Maybe said social media is one of the channels that we could use to be able to to better understand their needs and their wants and to to engage them again in a dialog. Is it about so do we even do it at all? So do we do we try to understand these? Can we allow ourselves not to do it? Can we allow just OK, we are the curators. We know what is best. We know our collection best. So maybe this is enough. And let's just put it out there. Let's put it in a lovely context. But somehow, especially now, I think what's with the big the boost of the online access to to it, to culture, to heritage? I think we need more. And that there was one more remark that I think we both values a lot is the value of personal context. So how do you how you make how do you make the experience experience personal? How do you make the interaction with with culture, especially with the social distancing, especially in the times when you are very often not allowed to to go to to a museum, to go to the cinema. How do you make this relationship last? And there was in that lovely example for friends about a theater company that basically decided to ring the spectators and they read the text to them as to how do how do you then get out on your usual comfort zone and try try out new things. Yes, so with respect to exploring opportunities that new collaborations bring, just like to make a few remarks and so thinking outside of the box is, I think, a good idea always, but maybe even more so today.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=745.57,879.47"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/7","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So, for instance, as I just mentioned, the debate venues and other theaters coming broadcast on their own. So one idea that that came up is if Oprah and ballet performances are presented online, might it be a good idea to also add archival collections related to those performances so people can basically not only watch the performance of this week, but also provide more contextual information by looking at documentaries about, for instance, the director or the theater. And so that would be quite a nice way to do collections in a very meaningful context online. And another obvious growth in markets is education as education is moving online. There's a big demand for audiovisual collections, so to set up conversations with educational experts is highly recommended. And on the right corner, there is a quote from our Italian colleagues at REI that they are really over the past couple of months exploring how to best organize the potential audiovisual collections in education. The next slide to my. And and also there is from the time line survey, this has become also quite clear as a statement that new types of collaborations are encouraged. OK, so it's it's so far it has been about how we how we work with our collections and how we enter into dialog, sustain a dialog with our audiences and other stakeholders. But I think it's also very much about ourselves and has how do we work as a community together? How do we work as professionals and how do we have to stay connected and lots of hours. So a big chunk of our discussion during the virtual exchange was also about that. That there is a need to to shift our approach when it comes to capacity building. We need to create new scenarios.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=879.5,1036.089"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/8","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"We need to find new ways to to remain in this nice learning curve. But we need new methods and we need to adapt. And I think some of our colleagues say they share their stories and said that, OK, at first we were a bit lost. At first we read in the book. So how can how should we adjust? But and how how should how should we regroup and find new ways to to keep our training courses there, to keep the exchange of knowledge there to to adjust our way. And this is the necessity. So we need to adjust. We need we need to change the way, at least for the time being. And I think this conference is one of the examples of how how we are trying to make it all happen. But there is a shift needed in that respect also about how we run the online events. And it's not about, you know, shifting everything one to one to the online because there are different limitations, different aspects that we need to take into account. So this is, I think, one of the most relevant observations for us as a as a community, as professionals. So how do we still remain connected? But and how do we make sure that that we share our knowledge and we share our experiences, but in this new format that we are all in? So about becoming friends of an organization we found in our conversations are examples of some of these. So, for instance, at a university that participated in our discussions, they spoke about how they created a pool of colleagues that could volunteer to do to the work. So this is on the on the left and right hand side there. It's called the gig.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=1036.099,1162.68"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/9","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So you could basically ask colleagues to help out. And for this university, it was quite a big impact because because of this there we're not at least when when we spoke to them, not because basically the people were still doing useful work with respect to the democratization of technology. So I think we've become very well accustomed to work with tools like the video conferencing, but also tools for online brainstorming, for instance. And so these kind of tools that we might have never used before March. Now it is part of our our daily work in some cases, and also like we like we are doing now. So having an online event and trying to say unbundle what makes it even so having plenary sessions, having breakout sessions, having network, being having bullying, et cetera. So there was a lot of there's a lot like that. Also, we'd like to make the point that this democratization also has its limitations. So, for instance, if we go for a museum option, but then this easy option will have some side effect. So, for instance, all of a sudden your archival material is presented in a commercial context or is next to this is something that you would like. So I'd like to stress this, something that might be super easy, might actually have some harmful effects perhaps. So it's just something to be very much aware of. OK, and the final observation, kind of a sad one, because I think that by if we are claiming that we're still going to work in a remote mode, at least a majority of us, but I think this is the reality. So we just need to make sure that if this is the case, that's the reality environment that we are in.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=1162.69,1242.413"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/10","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And all the conditions that the organization creates for us is fit for purpose. And we heard lots of stories about how important it is to feel safe in this new environment. And the new reason that we are all in that the technology and the technical support from from our own organization is crucial that we are able to do our work properly, because in this respect, not much has changed. We are still professionals. We are still eager to to be active, to operate. It's just a bit harder and not only because of the technology or a not suitable equipment, but it's also about having this balance between life and work, and it's about creating a home office. It's about making it all suitable and comfortable. And I think this is also where the organization needs to step in and take and support its employees and simply colleagues. And then I think we cannot also forget about our own mental health and that we are a community and that this is something this is a time as bad as it sounds, but this is a time that we need to be kind to one another. As simple as that, I think we are all stressed. We are all we need to know what's what to expect. I work on projects and having no deadline with this one is a killer for me. So we just need to understand that and appreciate what we have and be supportive. So this is the sixth observation. It's kind of emotional, but I'm super happy that we decided to have it that put it there, because I think this is this is a time when we can't can't really forget about this aspect of the work. Yeah. So just to to summarize.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=1304.25,1426.77"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/11","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"I'm pretty sure that we will be tweeting about this right after we finish, these are there are six observations and we will right itself in a report and that we will share over the both of our websites. And I would just like to chime in with my what I liked about the last two weeks and having these conversations is really the connection with with colleagues all over the globe. Sharing these these insights is very valuable and really shows the power of our community. So that would be nice if we have a few minutes to to discuss these insights further. So maybe there are there are more observations that we should be definitely adding to the report. You're very open to that. And so before I close and hand over to Judith, I like to I would like to thank all the people that participated in the survey, in the Timeline survey. And it's very special, thanks to Louise, Munser and Dale, who have been chairing the sessions that led to this report. So a big thank you. And Judith on the floor is yours. Thank you very much, Maria. And you had very, very impressive presentation. Thank you. I will call this a very superficial presentation. And I wish it was for almost every activist to to to see what you make the best you made out of this crisis. So for me, I should say, is a very practical use of practical, as should empower activists around the world and for this world before the racial hatred, I think is the best message for lack of it. So I think we have just I guess a couple of minutes.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=1426.97,1559.779"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/12","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"I will. So if you could get in touch with us, agree with me or with your client, because we thank you for the very kind words. I think we both see it as the beginning of a process with you on. So this is something that we hope that we can address this, the report in the coming hopefully days, and we will share it with everyone. And and then when this is when the real discussion should begin, at least in our opinion. So this is really we hope that this will be something that we just publish put out there and live it. But we were eager to to keep it going and to to have this conversation ongoing. So I hope this is just the beginning. Thank you, Larry. As I was saying something with that said, there's a lot of things about and we chose to know them and thanks to you. So the difficulty and yes, there are quite there are quite a few and and yeah, so if, for instance, the truth test is one that analyzes Twitter feeds, but also simple tools like the Google and Ingrams also highlights some some trending topics that can be a basis for further exploration in in Europe, there is a collaboration under the heading of a European digital media observatory, don't you? I will like that. And that's a good place to start looking for tools that are related to fighting this information technology.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=1560.26,1690.829"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/13","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Hey. So, Maria, Maria, you can touch on what Bruce just said. Bruce Gordon. OK, let me I don't have an opportunity to read it before about. And the long bit's, yes, about how how the current situation has encouraged everyone has triggered new more research, more interest in the private sector. I can only say I fully agree. So this is a yes. I think we all see it happening. We we see how archives are being used on different platforms by different stakeholders for different purposes. So there is a boost, as I earlier said, definitely for digital heritage digital. Also access to culture data is the most important. And the most interesting part for me in this area is that how do we sustain it? How do we make it last? And I think this is one of the most interesting and most important questions we should be asking ourselves these days. So how do we turn this interest into something long lasting and how do we make these collaborations, this new opportunity? Stay with us. So I think this I hope this is the right way to approach this company. I have a question. So which page will you share those reports when you're done? I think we're going to go with the official network, so we could definitely use the website and yassa website to do it because we as I said, we we are we're doing this with their blessing. So this is this is kind of cool. And we're going to I think, yeah, we'll try to promote it as much as possible. Also to be able to encourage everyone to get to get back in touch with us and to share their opinions. Right. And I think maybe can you comment on the last one with a comment by sub? I think if I look at this.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666#t=1695.69,1835.539"},{"id":"https://fiatiasa2020.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1193/collection_resources/32142/file/116666/transcript/29241/annotation/14","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Sue Davis has a question on how you decided about what to stop in order to meet. Yeah, so that's an interesting question. So my take would be that this decision was taken for us. So the fact that our building was closed and this is something that you're in many of our conversations meant that onsite preservation was severely blocked. And the same with in-person training. This is something that couldn't happen. And so it was those those effects meant that it was a need to rethink and see how to best make use of that time. OK, cool with you, but what do you think, Maya, is there? What would your advice be? I would just quote you. OK. So I think we run out of time. Thank you very much for this very engaging presentation. And I think that the emails are your emails. You hunt the e-mails are there so you can reach out to them. If you have any more questions, they need to follow up on how this project is going. So thank you for tuning in and see you in the next edition.
